We are creatures of habit.

Throughout the week we wake up at the same time (even if we don’t want too), shop at the same stores, drive the same way to work and  plan the same things to eat over and over again.  When something disrupts our routines we may find ourselves feeling “out of wack” and more than ever we want to go back to the way things were — or our routine.

This type of longing stretches far more than wanting to have Grilled Cheese and Tomato soup every Monday.   In our faith life we have our set ways.  We may say the same prayer before every meal and before bed time, we go to the same church, sing the same songs and if someone sits in the pew we sit in every single Sunday…..well look out!

Another thing we do not want changed is Facebook.  The past several months there have been a number of changes to Facebook and every time there is a change I have hundreds of friends posting complaints, wishing things went back to the way things were.  I am sure if pressed — most people don’t even remember how Facebook “used” to be when they first signed up.   But there is change, and no one likes change.

“I HATE this” one of my friends posted.  ”I am deleating my Facebook and I am going to Google +!!”  Well that has not happened yet.

“Facebook is all about the money.” Another friend posted.  ”They are just trying to use our information to get us to click on their ads.  This is an outrage!!” I appluade my friend for their conspiracy theory.  Some of this may be true, but Facebook is a business and they are basically giving out a free product.  They need to put food on the table somehow!

The bottom line is that Facebook is changing and we don’t like change.

But as we know there are tons of changes all throughout our lives.  I can recall lots of changes in my life throughout the years.  I have graduated from several schools (high school, college, and grad school), I have gotten married, I have had children and I have changed jobs several times.  With each change in my life I have survived, I have adjusted and in the end I have come out better because of the change.   I have to admit there have been some close calls, it has not been easy but I am happy with where I am in my life.

All of the changes in Facebook may seem insignificant and our reactions may seem silly.

But we can learn from it and apply it to the rest of our lives.  Because even though we may experience change in our lives, even though we may get upset because of that change, we can be rest assured that there are some things in our lives that will never change, nameily God.  Out of every life change that I have had I have always know that I have a faithful God who is right there with me, beside me — sometimes even carrying me through the difficult times of my life.
