Spring is in the air! I don’t know about you, but we have been so much happier being able to spend more time outdoors. The spring sunshine also brings picnic season and fresher food, and our meals have already begun to reflect that shift.
We are joining a local CSA again this year and can hardly wait for it to start. Our CSA Adventures began last fall, with a share at Brightside Farm. I was amazed at the bounty we brought home every week and was inspired to not let anything go to waste. We learned the value of stocking up and using food wisely, and we are so excited to have a full agriculture year with them again this year.
Brightside at Oakleaf Mennonite Farm uses 2 acres of land on the property of a Mennonite church in East Atlanta, and we actually get to go to the farm each week to pick up our stuff. They have swings to play on and animals to visit with … chicken, sheep, goats, and even a very friendly pig named Smudge. It’s a fun weekly outing for the entire family.
Our fall CSA Adventures were a big hit around here, so we’ve decided to bring it back for the 2015-2016 growing season! This year we are joining in on a meat CSA as well, so in addition to our weekly produce and eggs, we will get meat every other week. I’m excited about our ability to truly eat locally throughout the rest of the year.
Beginning the week of April 26, we’ll post a weekly meal plan sharing the list of what we brought home as well as our meal plan and how we used it. If you’re local and want more information about the Brightside Farm CSA, send me a message or check out their website!
