Cherish the Moments

She’s teaching me a lot about God lately. I have come to believe that there are some things you just will never know about God until you’re a parent. The selflessness. The wonder. The love.
When you have this little being to care for, nothing else matters. Your every decision is made based on her needs. If you can’t take her somewhere … well, you won’t be going … because she’s your tag along. Your best buddy. Your pal.
You never felt truly complete before now.
I think about Adam and Eve’s first moments on earth. This must’ve been what it was like for God. They were his best buddies. There were no ill feelings between them. No difficulties. They played together. God loved them with all he had. When they cried, he answered. When they laughed, he cried out of joy. They trusted him for their every need. They needed nothing else … as long as God was there. There was nothing but pure love between them.
And when they “grew up” they discovered there were other things out there. God was still all they needed, but the temptation for other things was just too great. I know that day will come. When she discovers there’s more out there than just Mom and Dad. And she’ll teach me a little more about God.
I guess that will happen every day. If I just take the time to soak her in … I’ll begin to truly understand a little more about just how much God loves us.
As I rock her to sleep, I tune out the world. I soak her in. I love her. I cherish her. I adore her. All the while knowing that God longs to do the same with me.
