A [Real Food] Journey

The last couple months, I’ve been reading 7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess with the Bibledude.net community. I’m a little late in joining the experiment, but with a new baby right at the time the project started, I felt like I needed to get my grounding first. But now, 10 1/2 weeks later, we’re ready.
So for the month of May, we embark on a journey. A food journey. We will eat only real foods. Whole foods. In the words of Michael Pollen, if you can’t imagine it in its natural state – then nope – no way – not going in our mouths.
As I’ve been trying to figure out just how we’d do this project, I realized that even though we try to be healthy eaters, we eat an awful lot of processed stuff. So we are cutting it out for this month.
This means no:
All purpose flour – only the whole wheat stuff!
White sugar or processed brown sugar – we will try to use honey as a sweetener whenever possible. Raw sugar is okay for our morning coffee, tea, and the occasional sweet treat.
Frozen processed meals – okay, this may sound like a no-brainer, but let me tell you … as a new mom, this one is gonna be hard. But – I can do it!
Processed stuff – ketchup, mayo, bbq sauce, salad dressing, etc.
I’ll do my best to journal through it and post updates on how its going, as well as recipes we try along the way. In the meantime, feel free to send us real food recipes to try!
Here’s to a more healthy, more whole, more real month of May!
