This week it was A Strange Way to Save the World by 4Him that hit me hard. As I listened to the words, I imagined that first Christmas night so long ago and began to think about just who that “royal family” was. Little Mary was probably somewhere around the age of 12-14. I think about the kids around me who are that age, and I can’t imagine how terrified she must have been. No one really knows how old Joseph was, but guesses are anywhere around 16-25 – or maybe even older. Regardless, no matter how old he was, I can imagine he was terrified, skeptical, and angry. They had to have thought this whole thing was “strange.” Jesus – the savior of all – to come quietly in a manger? No bells and whistles. No planned out perfection – it was all one big disaster really. If it were us, in today’s time, we’d be completely freaking out! And yet that’s how God came to us … quietly … smelly. Can you imagine how bad that manger smelled? Simply. It was no big production, no big sales pitch, it just happened. The people that saw him took one look at him and knew. They met him and knew he was different. There was no production or sales pitch necessary.

This song got me thinking – how would our lives be different if we stopped trying to make some big production and stopped trying to create the perfect sales pitch and just let Christ happen?
