A month or so ago I was convinced that in order to have a new beginning, you had to leave most of the old behind. I was proven wrong this weekend. Although I knew we would have a wonderful time with Jenn & Bob, I must admit I was a little apprehensive about seeing so many old college friends. My apprehension probably stemmed from the fact that I haven’t seen most of them in over 3 years, my life is drastically different now than it was a little over a year ago, and I was bringing a new guy into the picture as well. Much to my surprise, seeing these old friends was refreshing, comforting, and energizing. Instead of a stressful weekend, it became a healing weekend. We traveled to the campus of my Alma Mater and as we took the first step on the green green grass of Valpo, the happy memories flooded my brain. The campus felt like home once again. As we walked around and made our own new Valpo memories, I realized that it’s okay to bring your past with you into your new beginning. You don’t have to get rid of all of the old to make room for the new. Thank you Valpo, and thank you my dear Valpo friends, for being true to the end.

  • I hear this a lot in Christian circles. I wonder if it's partly because there are so many references to getting a "new life" when it comes to our faith that we think this concept applies to other areas of our life?

Glad it was such a good trip for you!

    I hope I can \\\"come home\\\" again soon :)
  • Always, Crys! We love you very much and I'm so happy to hear this weekend turned out to be healing more than anything. New memories do stem from these experiences, but friendships (and Christ, of course) are the glue for our past! You are welcome home anytime. Come home soon!
